Vance Bradley Walker
(10.07.1970 - 07.14.2007)
VanceThis is Vance’s story:   Vance Walker was born in Rome, Georgia, and was 36 years old when we lost him.  He was a graduate of West Rome High School and Shorter College.  While in college, he became addicted to multiple prescription drugs, and experimented with both legal and illegal substances.

All who were acquainted with Vance knew he was all about his music.  From childhood, he was an accomplished and talented musician.  His ability to play multiple instruments, sing, and compose countless songs, lyrics and melodies was amazing.  He was a bit shy and reserved, but enjoyed entertaining others with both his music and his humor.  He was an amazing mimic, and had a dry and subtle wit.  He was a brave, gentle, and caring soul who was beautiful both inside and outside.  He loved animals and working with children.  One of his dreams was to teach music to deaf children.  He was very spiritual, frequently read and studied the Bible and other religious publications, and had been confirmed as both Episcopalian and Catholic.  His patron saint was Saint Cecilia, patron saint of Music.

He fought a long and courageous battle with his addictions, but grew more and more tired and discouraged from fighting his dual diagnosis of bipolar and addiction.  Each diagnosis kept him from being successfully treated for the other.  Overdoses and rehabs - over and over and over - were only a temporary fix.  Vance was losing his fight against his demons.  We lost him 7/14/07, when our Heavenly Father saw him fading and called him Home.  Now Vance uses his incredible talent to make music with other angels of addiction.  Now they bask in the love of God's eternal light, with no more fears, disappointments, crushing defeats, self-doubt, and demons.

I do not want my son's death to be in vain.  I want others to know about the dangers of drug abuse and addiction, so perhaps other parents will not have to face this horrible pain.

Vicki Coheley, Vance’s mom
