Following are the drugs and a brief description of their effects relating to Jennys experimentation and use. For more detailed information, contact local substance abuse organizations, libraries or the Internet.
Although there are street names for all drugs, these can and do change from time to time, so that the writers did not consider it relevant to research further for the purposes of this course.
TOBACCO/CIGARETTES: Nicotine addiction. Use: smoked. Can cause heart and cardiovascular diseases, and cancer.
MARIJUANA: Plant. Use: smoked or eaten. Causes: impaired comprehension, reduction in concentration and co-ordination; anxiety attacks. Other negative symptoms.
LSD: Tablets, taken orally or liquid in eyes. Causes: elevated body and blood pressure, suppressed appetite, chronic returning hallucinations.
METHAMPHETAMINES: Taken orally, injected or smoked. Causes anxiety, irritability, with increased blood pressure, depression, paranoia, aggression.
MAGIC MUSHROOMS: Use: Eaten or brewed in tea. Causes increased blood pressure, nausea, sweating, and hallucinations.
ECSTACY: Use: Tablet taken orally (amphetamine). Causes anxiety, paranoia, blurred vision, hallucinations, increased blood pressure, fainting and chills.
COCAINE: Use: Snorted through nose and injected after dissolving. Causes seizures, paranoia, loss of appetite, insomnia, irritability, restlessness and elevated blood pressure.
HEROIN: Use: Injected, smoked or snorted. Causes slow and slurred speech, constricted pupils, impaired night vision, reduced appetite, nodding off and constipation.
VALIUM, HALCION, SOMA: All are very similar drugs taken orally in tablet form. Causes: anti-anxiety and anti-convulsant status; with hypnotic, drunken behavior, and disorientation.
